June 12: Abuja National Stadium Named After MKO Abiola

LATE CHIEF MKO ABIOLA 
The National Stadium, Abuja, Nigeria, was on Wednesday (today) named after the winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, late Chief  MKO Abiola Stadium.

It would be recalled that the said election was nullified by the former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida (rtd).

The change in name was announced by President Muhammad Buhari during his speech at the Democracy Day celebration on Wednesday at the Eagle Square, Abuja.

President Buhari had on Monday officially declared today as Democracy Day as a mark of honour to Abiola, the acclaimed winner of June 12, 1993 presidential election.
