(BREAKING) Court Orders Final Forfeiture Of Patience Jonathan's N9.2bn, $8.4m To Nigerian Government

PATIENCE JONATHAN

By Francis Iwuchukwu, Lagos

A Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos State, Nigeria, presided over by Justice Mojisola Olatoregun, on Monday (today) ordered the final forfeiture of sums to the tune of N9.2bn, and $8.4m respectively, purportedly owned by former Nigeria's first lady, Patience Jonathan, to the Federal Government of Nigeria, FGN.

Delivering judgment in the action instituted against Patience Jonathan by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, the judge argued that the decision was arrived at, consequent upon the failure of the former first lady to show reasonable cause as to why the sums should not be permanently forfeited to the FGN.

Justice Olatoregun equally held that the forfeited sums are proceeds of an unlawful act.
