First African American Woman To Win Nobel Prize For Literature Is Dead


The first African American woman to win the Nobel Prize for Literature, Toni Morrison is dead. 

She died consequent upon a brief illness, according to her family in a statement issued on Tuesday.

Morrison died at the age of 88.

According to the statement. “It is with profound sadness we share that, following a short illness, our adored mother and grandmother, Toni Morrison, passed away peacefully last night surrounded by family and friends.

“Although her passing represents a tremendous loss, we are grateful she had a long, well-lived life.”
