Alleged Money Laundering: The Senior Advocate Of Nigeria, Ahmed Raji, Fired By Maina

ABUJA,  NIGERIA - A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN),  Ahmed Raji, has been shown the way out by the former Pension Reform Task Team Chairman, Abdulrasheed Maina,  from further being his legal representative in court.

As of the time of filing this report,  our correspondent had yet to ascertain the reason for Abdulrasheed Maina's decision.

Meanwhile, Abdulrasheed Maina is now being represented by a new legal team, led by Joe-kyari Gadzama (SAN).

The information about Ahmed Raji's removal was made public in court on Wednesday (yesterday)  as Abdulrasheed Maina's trial began.

It would be recalled that Abdulrasheed Maina is answering questions to a 12-count charge that had to do with money laundering, fraud and operating fictitious bank accounts.

In addressing the court,  presided over by Justice Okon Abang, Joe-kyari Gadzama told the court that he was not prepared to proceed with trial, having only been briefed the night before by Maina’s previous legal team.

Joe-kyari Gadzama then begged the court for time so as to go through the files and get a proper handover from the previous defence team.

But the prosecution opposed the application on the ground that it was frivolous.

In his ruling, Justice Okon Abang agreed with the prosecution and proceeded with the matter.
