Alleged N2.1b Fraud: Court Grants EFCC Power To Further Detain Maina, Son

ABUJA, NIGERIA - A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, sitting in Bwari, Abuja, Nigeria, has granted an order to detain former Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina and his son, Faisal, in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), pending the conclusion of ongoing investigation.

It would be recalled that the order was granted on October 7, 2019, consequent upon an exparte application instituted by the Commission to remand the defendants in its custody for an initial period of 14 days.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday (today) by the spokesperson to the anti-graft agency, Wilson Uwujaren, the order was subject to review if necessary,

Abdulrasheed Maina, alongside his son were apprehended at an Abuja hotel by the operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and were subsequently handed to the EFCC for further investigation and prosecution over allegation of fraud and money laundering to the tune of N2.1 billion.

Prior to his handover to the EFCC, Abdulrasheed Maina, had allegedly been evading arrest for over four years.
