We Are Dealing With A Consummate Dictator In Cross River - AGBA JALINGO

IKEJA, LAGOS STATE, NIGERIA - Agba Jalingo, the Publisher of Cross RiverWatch has made a declaration that the people of Cross River State are dealing with a Consummate dictator.

Agba Jalingo further insisted that there is no press freedom in Cross River State.

Agba Jalingo, who was apparently referring to the leadership style of the incumbent governor of the state, Professor Ben Ayad, stated this on Tuesday while speaking on the situation of media freedom and freedom of expression in Nigeria, during an interactive session on promoting media freedom and freedom of expression in Nigeria put together by a Lagos-based human rights group, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, in Lagos.

Agba Jalingo who revealed that he would be resuming his journalism career from where he stopped before being arrested by the country's secret police allegedly on the order of the Cross River State Governor, Ben Ayade said: “So eventually, I am back home, and you know what? I am back home to start from where I stopped.

“As I am talking to you, I reported again five minutes ago about what Ayade is doing with the local government funds.

"I am not going to stop what I am doing, there is nothing that will stop me from doing what I am doing. It is not possible.”

It would be recalled that a Federal High Court sitting in Calabar, presided over by Justice Sule Shuaibu had on February 17 granted Agba Jalingo bail in the sum of N10m with one surety in like sum after spending  174 days in detention.

Agba Jalingo was arrested in August 2019 and charged with disturbance of public peace and treason.

Agba Jalingo's arrest came sequel to a report written by Jalingo and published in July 2019 with the headline “How Ayade Approved And Diverted N500million For Cross River Micro-Finance Bank” on his news website: CrossRiverWatch.

The report specifically questioned Governor Ben Ayade on  how he spent the approved N500m released for the Cross River State Micro-Finance Bank.
