(JUST IN) N827m Ordered Forfeited To Nigerian Government


LAGOS, NIGERIA - Justice Chukwujeku Aneke of a Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos State, Nigeria, on Monday (today) ordered the interim forfeiture of a sum to the tune of  N827million recovered from a businessman, Matthew Edevbie, to the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN). 

The judge arrived at the decision consequent upon an ex parte application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The EFCC, through its lawyer, Rotimi Oyedepo, informed the court that the sum, comprising N616,679,098.32 and N211,000,000.00 "is reasonably suspected to be part of proceeds of unlawful activities."

The judge in granting the order adjourned further proceeding to 29th of June.
